-The site preparation for dwarf sour cherries is basically the same as for other crops like saskatoon berries.
-Cherries should be planted in full sunlight and preferably with a shelterbelt to the north and west sides of the orchard.
-A soil test should be done initially to see if the soil is short of any nutrients.
-Cherries like soil that has good drainage so a sandy or loam soil is ideal.
-The planting area should be as free of perennial weeds such as dandelion, canada thistle, sow thistle and quackgrass as possible. If these weeds are removed before planting, it will save a lot of work later on.
-A deer fence is recommended, especially if the orchard is far away from the house.
